Catriona Gray is a freelance journalist and author, who was born in Ireland and now lives in the UK.
Having studied English literature at Trinity College Dublin and the University of Cambridge, where she co-edited the literary anthology The Mays, she went on to work at Conde Nast, firstly for GQ, then for House & Garden. She has written two books on the history of interior design: Fifties House (2014; Conran Octopus) and its sequel Sixties House (2016; Conran Octopus).
She spent a number of years as commissioning editor at the British editions of Harper’s Bazaar and Town & Country, overseeing a number of sections. She is now a freelance features writer, mainly focusing on the luxury sector, interiors, and culture.
Having started out her career in digital journalism, she is in the position of being able to write both longform print pieces and online stories. She also undertakes occasional copywriting commissions in the luxury sector.
She has written for many leading publications, including The Telegraph, Conde Nast Property (comprising Vogue, Tatler, House & Garden, GQ), Town & Country (US), The Guardian, GQ, The Walpole Group, Country & Town House, Goodwood Magazine, The Financial Times, The Irish Times and The Irish Independent.
Under the name Cat Gray, she has two magical middle-grade novels published by Usborne; the first, Spellstoppers, was published in summer 2022, while The Spirit Snatcher was published in autumn 2023, and was Blackwell’s Children’s Book of the Month for October 2023. For fiction, she is represented by Silvia Molteni at PFD.
